Notable Stars without Oscars

Upon Leonardo DiCaprio’s recent Oscar, I though it necessary to outline other great contemporary actors and actresses who are yet to achieve an Oscar despite their notable works in the film industry.

Johnny Depp

Nominated for 3 Oscars

Notable works –

  • Edward Scissorhands (1990)
  • Sleepy Hollow (1999)
  • Pirates of the Caribbean Franchise (2003-)
  • Finding Neverland (2004)
  • Alice in Wonderland (2010)

Johnny Depp is one of the most versatile actors of our time. How he has not achieved an Oscar is beyond me. Although Depp has stated: “I don’t want to win one of those things ever, you know […] I don’t want to have to talk”, I think to be recognised as an actor of his time is something to strive towards.

edward-norton-04Edward Norton

Nominated for 3 Oscars

Notable Works –

  • American History X (1998)
  • Fight Club (1999)
  • The Incredible Hulk (2008)
  • Birdman (2014)

Again, another Oscar deserving actor. Norton has been nominated for three Oscars, and lost on all three accounts. Personally, I thought his performance and portrayal of ‘the Narrator’ in Fight Club was phenomenal and one which could not be replicated by any other actor.

Helena Bonham Carterhelena-photoshoot-helena-bonham-carter-22597771-1065-1600

Nominated for 2 Oscars

Notable works

  • Fight Club (1999)
  • Harry Potter Franchise (2005-2013)
  • Alice in Wonderland (2010)
  • Suffragette (2015)

Bonham Carter is a British gem, and one which should be cherished. Despite having previously been married to director, Tim Burton, Bonham Cater has established herself well in the film industry with her unique, crazy and Gothic style. Personally, she is one of my favourite actors, and she definitely brings an energy to a character no other actress can.

Jjohn_travolta_1997ohn Travolta

Nominated for 2 Oscars

Notable works

  • Saturday Night Fever (1977)
  • Grease (1978)
  • Pulp Fiction (1994)
  • Face/Off (1997)

John Travolta, another star who has yet received an Oscar. Above I have listed four notable films he has been in, which exemplify his acting abilities of singing, dancing an acting. He will definitely go down in history as an iconic actor. However, as he’s passed his peak in his career, will he ever win an Oscar?

Liam Neesonmv5bmja1mtq3nzu1mv5bml5banbnxkftztgwmde3mjg0mze-_v1_uy317_cr520214317_al_

Nominated for 1 Oscar

Notable works

  • Schindler’s List (1993)
  • Star Wars – The Phantom Menace (1999)
  • Batman Begins (2005)
  • The Taken Trilogy (2008-2014)

Personally, I found it shocking to find out Neeson had only been nominated for one Oscar – leading role in Schindler’s List. Neeson has exemplified many great performances. However, like Travolta, has he too passed the peak of his career? With the recent two Taken films being a bit of a disappointment, does this mark the end of for Neeson?

article-2571352-1bf6b56d00000578-732_306x423Ralph Fiennes

Nominated for 2 Oscars

Notable works

  • Schindler’s List (1991)
  • The English Patient (1996)
  • The Harry Potter Franchise (2005-2013)
  • The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014)

Like his co-star Neeson, Fiennes has also received one Oscar nomination for Schindler’s List. It is shocking that Fiennes has not, and never will receive an Academy Award for his role as Voldemort in the Harry Potter franchise. Yet, he still continues to part-take in blockbuster films. Does he still stand a chance?

Keira Knightleya89476f7088544fd0f936780ee251086

Nominated for 2 Oscars

Notable works

  • Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy (2003-)
  • Pride and Prejudice (2005)
  • Atonement (2007)
  • The Imitation Game (2014)

Knightley, usually known for her period dramas, has received two Oscar nominations. With at leas three films to be released in the next year, could this be Knightley’s chance to finally snap up an Oscar?

amy-adams-vogue-december-2014-23Amy Adams

Nominated for 5 Oscars

Notable works

  • Enchanted (2007)
  • Man of Steel (2013)
  • American Hustle (2013)
  • Big Eyes (2014)

Adams has been recognised by the Golden Globes for her works in the Film industry, but she is still yet to win that all important Oscar. Having been nominated for a staggering five Academy Awards since 2006, will Adams be the next Leo?

Who would you pick next?
